Palin poor? That’s rich!
US Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin claims she struggles to pay bills, describing herself as “an everyday, working-class American” who knows how it feels when the stock market takes a hit.
The Palin family income reached six figures in her 2007 declaration, capitalising on salmon fishing rights and property deals. Her governor’s salary brought in $125,000 (£71,000), while her husband Todd earned nearly $100,000 from his part-time job with BP, combined with income from commercial fishing.
The couple appear to be worth at least $1.2m, including a $500,000 home, a Piper float-plane and two holiday getaways.
My. I wish I was struggling just like the Palins. Don’t you wish much the same for yourself?

This is the penultimate part of my blog retrospective. 2007 was the year that saw me enter my forties. Marked by a poodle for the glory of gay gods tells the story of how my mother’s pet poodle bit the doctor who turned up too late to attend my home birth. It might arguably be not only my best headline ever, but also one of the funniest personal stories I’ve ever shared online (even though I, obviously enough, have no recollection of the events as told to me by my mum).
