Escapee chickens get jail time for crime


After watching one clever chicken bouncing like Zebedee yesterday until she got over the fence of their enclosure and into the pumpkin patch, I can say with absolute conviction that some chickens are smarter than others, even if the most clever examples of these feathered fiends still do really stupid stuff as well. They are now confined to their run as a consequence of their crimes against vegetables, until I can get their new bigger home and run built at the weekend. Complete with escape-proof cover.

Twee? You bet!


We’ve ordered a new henhouse. It’s actually a children’s wooden playhouse, with little square windows and a door, that we plan to convert. It’s huge but very pretty, and will be easy to clean. The old one will become a hospital/nursery, as and whenever either of those is needed.
