That documentary was ruff, growls Kennel Club
The Kennel Club is lodging a complaint with TV regulator Ofcom about a recent BBC documentary exposing genetic illnesses in pedigree dogs. The club is now reviewing its contract with the BBC to broadcast the famous Crufts Dog Show, which has been broadcast on BBC2 since 1966. It says the documentary was unfairly edited and did not properly reflect its “deep commitment to the health and welfare of dogs”.
A spokesman for BBC Documentaries said it stood by the programme’s content. The RPSCA has already pulled out of the show because of welfare concerns. A second charity, Dogs Trust, has also announced it is withdrawing from Crufts and the Westminster Dog Show. Even Crufts’ sponsor, the dog food maker Pedigree, has said it is “concerned at the findings of the BBC’s recent documentary”.

What is this obsession within the BBC with the colour hot pink? It’s used with a fat-looking font for the BBC3 logo and would be more appropriate used on a bubblegum wrapper. It’s used on the BBC3 channel idents and the iPlayer as well. It’s hardly the right colour to be confronted with when listening to Radio 4 programming, or is that just me? Hot pink conjures up images that are wholly 1980s: legwarmers, angora jumpers, big perms, and a host of other monstrosities best forgotten. Draq queens and feather boas also spring to mind. Bring back the blobs!
