I’m really 28!

I did the True Age Test on Facebook, answered all the questions truthfully, and the result was that my ‘true’ age came back as 28. Blimey. I guess all the gardening, low alcohol consumption, walking everywhere, and the vegetarian diet low in processed foodstuffs really does make a difference, even set against all my, er, sins! Funnily enough, given the way I behave and think, 28 sounds about right for me.

I’m really 41, and will be 42 in February 2009.

Poem: Once, in a Different Year

One of the standing stones at Little Salkeld, Cumbria

Once, in a different year,
there was nothing to fear,
life was a playground
of men, wine, and beer.

Once, in a different year,
he climbed the Tor, saw the seer,
looked into her shining glass,
took away a scheme as souvenir.

Once, in a different year,
he was somewhere else, not here,
not imprisoned by his ailing body,
healthy, strong, leading all to new frontiers.

Once, in a different year,
he was the hunter, he caught the deer,
but a younger man now wears his crown
and, in half-light, his ancestors draw near.
