Pedigree owners for pedigree cats?

We planned recently to adopt a rescued elderly Burmese cat. We were surprised to find a substantial fee was payable, well in excess of one hundred pounds, but that was far less an issue than the amount of information that was demanded from us. It was hugely discouraging.

We were asked to fill in a form that would be checked by a solicitor, provide proof of current and past addresses, passports and driving licences (if held), and photographs of the rear garden. We had to write on the form what vaccinations we expected the cat would need annually—now, our current tribe is vaccinated but I couldn’t tell you what for without looking online—and sign to promise that we would notify the rescue centre whenever the cat was ill, and allow for up to three home visits to check, presumably, that we weren’t working for Cruella De Ville Enterprises and hosting a cat fur farm in the garage. We had to list all our animals, their names, ages, behaviours, illnesses… The list of apparent need-to-knows was huge.
