It was ten years ago today—June 27 1998–that I met David in a nightclub called G.A.Y. at the London Astoria. He was 19 years old, I was 31. You never know what the future holds, but the night we met I had a feeling, and so did he, that this one was going to be a keeper…


The madness of a revolving skyscraper

Surely a revolving building will make a significant number of people inside it constantly nauseous? Plans have been announced for a $700m moving skyscraper, the world’s first, in Dubai. The 80-storey tower will open its doors for business in 2010. You can be certain people like myself who suffer from balance disorders and disabilities will not, unless extremely foolish, ever set foot in such a building. Chances are, even looking at it would trigger the symptoms of my Mal de Debarquement Syndrome to go into overdrive.

Just when many of us are despairing at our inability to change the ways in which big businesses conduct themselves, along comes the answer: never mind harping on about CO2 emissions, unnecessary packaging, and social responsibility—just grab yourself a modest 202 queer-hating people secretly working together in an unholy alliance, and you’ve got yourself enough people to make a difference, albeit a very negative one.



My MacBook Pro came back from repair having suffered a 'logic board failure'. I don't know what that is, but it sounds serious and ghastly. Thanks to the wonderful Migration Assistant in OS X, it took me all of half an hour to get my applications, email, settings and documents back onto the machine via a FireWire link-up with the iMac. Windows was never easy in that regard.
