The Disconnected Free Radicals Mix

I took a while producing this mix for you to download (right-click the link on PCs, ctrl+click on Macs). It comes in at a hefty 92.7Mb when unzipped, but the download is just under 60Mb. Disconnected Free Radicals brings you an hour and five minutes of thought-provoking, thematically-linked tracks. All for gratis, nought pence, nuffink.

Okay, if you still don’t get it, it’s a free gift. :-)

I was annoyed to find after completing it that one of the tracks skips, just once, seconds only, but it’s there. Very annoying. I previously thought it impossible for a digital music file to do that, unless you converted a vinyl record that had scratches on it (or if your cat jumped on the turntable when you weren’t looking), or maybe if you ripped a CD that had dirty great fingerprints on it. But no. The track in question was, it’s true, ripped from a CD. But being slightly OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) when it comes to maintaining my analogue music collection in sparkling condition (and making sure all my digital music is tagged properly), there’s no way the original CD had a skip on it. I checked the digitised track in question after doing this mix, and found it to be skip-free.

So I guess the most likely explanation is a damnable software glitch I’ve never encountered before. That said, it’s only two seconds or so when it happens, so yes, I’m being finicky. You will find the glitch 9 minutes and 56 seconds into the mix. You might not even notice; the DJ, however, hears all.

There are no other errors but I’m narky right now simply because my ability to mix is getting better over time with more and more practice. Discounting those few seconds, Disconnected Free Radicals is my best mix to date by far: it starts with something decidedly shamanic and meditative before moving through dance, trance, acapella, experimental, goth, pop and grunge. It brings to your ears different shades of protest and commentary, political and spiritual awareness. Some songs you will know and others you won’t. Disconnected Free Radicals is intended to be an aural adventure story with a message behind everything you hear…

Check it out, let me know what you think. But if you hear growling, that’s me, over here, still chundering about the temperamental inconstancy of software. It never cares how much work you’ve put into things!

Beautifu1 ยป Listening back, it is hardly noticeable but it’s like anything we do… We notice the things that aren’t as we want them but others, who didn’t do the job, don’t necessarily at all… with gardens, decorating, cakes… etc, etc… x
