No shame, no morals, no lives and possibly no sex

What’s more, if the bin collectors deem the contents of a bin to be somehow failing to meet requirements, they either don’t empty it or you could find yourself with a court summons and fined. If we want to hire a skip, we have to pay £20 to the council (some charge more, some charge less) just for the right to park it temporarily on the poorly if ever maintained, pockmarked and cracked road. So we’re left with the impression that if we want to be confident the dustbin men (and they are mostly men—I’ve seen no women doing the job round here) will empty our bins, we should drench them in perfume and fill them with soft clean goose feathers only, lest we dirty the men’s delicate hands or they break a fingernail (which itself might lead to the council being sued and compensation and disability benefits claimed).

Is there anyone who can argue convincingly that the war on ordinary people instigated by local councils does anything to promote democratic participation, or engender positive environmental action? Aren’t we hit enough by stealth taxes, income tax, value added tax, rising food and fuel prices, without nobs in suits driving round our neighbourhoods armed with cameras, notepads and tape measures to catch out anyone living their lives in ways they deem unacceptable, and to recruit the somewhat lost and frustrated among the elderly, the neurotic and ill, and the quite likely sex-starved as their foot soldiers?

I'm saddened to learn that Big Finish has not only lost the right to produce new The Tomorrow People audio plays, but did so halfway through completing a sixth season! They don't even have the right to sell seasons 1-5 anymore, but can sell the original TV shows on DVD.
