Prince Harry and the ‘Get Out of Jail Free’ card
So Harry and his two friends were the only people out on the estate with guns when the two harriers were killed, and the bodies of the protected birds were never recovered. He was a suspect (understandably given the few available facts) but no charges are to be brought against anyone. Well that’s a surprise, isn’t it? Oh, and illegal lead shot was thought to have been used but, again, no evidence can be found as the ducks killed that day disappeared as well.
Royalists will be quick to declare Harry and his chums blameless, citing the old adage ‘innocent until proven guilty’. Many others, however, will say the whole affair stinks of corrupt privilege being brought into play.
These people don’t live in the same world as the rest of us. It seems now that they aren’t to be governed by the same laws, either. Next time Prince Charles lectures the world on environmental responsibility, will anybody have the courage to tell him to talk to his youngest son? Not likely. But then, it’s been a long-standing sick joke that Charles’ own father heads up the Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF) having proven himself incredibly bloodthirsty down the years and not at all averse to big game hunting.
So what matter a couple of nuisance birds to people like these?
