Devolution of the Daleks

Spoilers ahead, okay? The second part of this year’s Doctor Who story involving the Daleks wasn’t much better, if at all, than the first last week. Evolution of the Daleks was a shameful mess of stupid and corny ideas, bad plotting and running around corridors aimlessly just like the worst of the old days. It was unforgiveably awful.

I would have said it was marginally better than the first part, until we were presented by the newly-humanised Dalek Sec (who, incidentally, looked like the Jagaroth in 1979 story, City of Death but sounded like a nice middle-class office worker, no menace whatsoever) with the notion of the Daleks having emptied 1,000 human beings of their personalities to make way for Dalek DNA turning the shells into nu-breed Dalek humanoids.

Yes, really.

It got worse. There was a gang of human beings running around with Dalek guns in their hands because they were supposed to be Daleks in human bodies (these being different to the pig men, who were humans genetically manipulated with pig DNA to turn them into slaves) but the Dalek humans actually turned out to be Time Lord humans instead, because the Doctor, who had agreed to help the Daleks despite them having killed so many humans, decided to then let himself get fried by a lightning bolt on top of the Empire State Building and somehow survived but then decided to get all upset at the Daleks committing genocide against this ‘new race’ despite it having been born from the bodies of a human massacre.
