Top 10 personal annoyances of 2006

Sunday, December 17th, 2006

It’s the time of year for parties, silliness and reflection, so I’m starting up a new meme. This is a simple listing of the top ten things (and people) I found most annoying in 2006, in no particular order.

1. The complete absence of sunshine during the month of August in the UK.
2. The constant rain and despair-inducing darkness during November and December in the UK.
3. Supposed do-gooders masking prejudice with a veneer of respectable good intentions.
4. The outrageous and unlawful charges inflicted by British banking institutions on anyone going so much as a penny over their overdraft limits. These can, of course, and should be claimed back. Go here for more info.
5. People making judgements on things they have no understanding of and, importantly, seek no understanding of. Ignorance is one thing. Ignorance as a launchpad for action is quite another.
6. George W Bush. I cannot and never will understand how Americans could ever vote in someone that stupid, that arrogant, that dangerous. He makes Nixon look like a candidate for [[beatification]].
7. Tony Blair. I cannot and never will understand how Brits can vote in someone that arrogant and that dangerous a second and a third time. At least with the first time, we didn’t know better. And he isn’t stupid.
8. Adverts on the UK’s Channel 4 now following the American model of appearing straight after the title credits on a show. This is not progress and is very, very annoying.
9. Sky TV deciding not to air season 3 of [[Battlestar Galactica]] until the new year, presumably because they’ve poached [[Lost]] from Channel 4. Don’t they want to discourage illegal downloading?
10. Petty, childish, vindictive behaviours on the part of some people taking part in, or voting for, awards. They kill the fun for everyone.

And now I pass le baton to… Amethyst Dragon. Go girl.
