Poem: This incubating winter
This incubating winter will not leave me.
Instead it needs all my strength
just to maintain the level, hold my ground
against the chill, the isolating scurvy.
I feel myself – there I go
slipping on the ice.
The wind no longer mocks me as it once did.
I can tame the wind. I can surf the sky with a sharpened eye.
Whatever comes, I will survive.
The birds in the trees will sing.
