I Won’t Be Your Yoko Ono

I was recently introduced to the works of Dar Williams. My favourite song of hers is I Won’t Be Your Yoko Ono and I think it’s basically asking what would have happened to Yoko had she not met John Lennon, and what might have happened to John if he hadn’t met Yoko. At the same time, the singer is saying I’m not going to shadow you because I love you, I’m not going to give up my dreams so that you can follow yours.

Powerful stuff. The musical accompaniment, though, is jolly and guitar-based. It’s a light and summery sound. I wish I’d thought up the title of this song for a poem. It’s great!
