US government: vegan child diet ‘unethical’
The BBC news website today carries a story about Lindsay Allen, of the US Agricultural Research Service, who has attacked parents who insist their children live by the maxim ‘meat is murder’. Allen claims that putting children on strict vegan diets is ‘unethical’ and could harm their development.
Ms Allen has some nerve in pushing such outrageously false propaganda on behalf of the US meat industry. Tellingly, if you scroll to the bottom of the BBC report, you’ll notice the final line informs the reader that the US Agricultural Research Service is part of the US Department of Agriculture. Well that makes me feel a whole lot better. For a minute there, I thought I couldn’t trust the information. Now I know it’s coming from the US government, I can rest easy. That is, when hell freezes over on the fourtieth Tuesday of the fifteen month of the 33rd century.
Poem: She Smells Love
(for Lucky)
Little black eyes
but it’s the nose that
sees all.
The whiskers twitch
and the nose goes sniff, sniff.
What are you eating? Can I have some?
Little pink fingers
wrap around the edge of her toy,
the wheel. It’s her favourite.
She smells love
in the gentle handling,
the warm soft voice.
She sleeps happy
and safe, knowing
more than I ever can
what it means
to be loved
by me.
