The willow’s knowledge and the storm’s ignorance

I was sent this absolutely wonderful quotation yesterday, in an email full of interesting quotes from a variety of sources. I thought I’d share this one here, as I found it so positive and enabling:

The willow knows what the storm does not: that the power to endure harm outlives the power to inflict it. (Anon)

It’s such an affirmative quote for anyone suffering tough times, be they financial, emotional, spiritual… whatever. Such difficult times lose their power eventually, leaving you – if you are aware of their transient nature – intact and stronger from the knowledge that you’ve passed through them. The other side of the low is the high; the path out of the valley leads to the mountain top.

Poem: Dagda

my father
your father
everybody’s father
the father of us all

the father of Brigid
good father
good god
Dagda

red god
phallic god
bountiful giver
cauldron never dry

flame eternal
flame in the belly
flame in the loins
flame in the eye

strong Dagda
hungry Dagda
lustful Dagda
merciful Dagda

beloved mate of the great Queen
lord of perfect knowledge
play your harp of seasons’ change
swing your club that slays and revives

hear us old giant
druid of oak and hazel
compassionate and just
eldest, wisest, mightiest one

bring your wisdom and lust for life
passion in all things for all things
victory to those who fight for right
join us as we celebrate your love
